Since launching early this year, more than 200 charities have signed up to support the Good Fundraising Code, a free code of conduct for charities to subscribe to.
Gareth Edwards, founder of the Practical Fundraising Association which manages the code, says 'The code will always be a free resource to the sector. Morally, we feel there is something wrong with charging a fee for charities to appear ethical in the public's eyes, and so we decided to give charities who agree with us a choice. The fact over 200 charities have signed up in the first months is an indication of the desire for such a code.'
He continues: 'It is sad some organisations just cannot seem to understand us providing this as a service to the sector without any cost or alterior motive, but the fact remains that the code will always be a totally free resource for the sector and has at its core a belief in our sector and the fundraising ethics of the charities and other non profits it contains.'
